2 Days Best to do List Santiago

If you are wondering how? Here’s how…

I know 2 days in Santiago is too short, But if you are on a working visit like me or a 7 days trip & would like to squeeze in, then trust me when I say “IT’S TOTALLY WORTH IT!” And if you are like my husband who hates reading but loves pictures & quick info then this post is for you. Just read the 1st page & scroll to pictures. There are plenty of Accommodation options in the city.

DAY 1:  From SANTIAGO to VIÑA INDÕMITA – CASABLANCA 75km/55min

VIÑA INDÕMITA to  VALPARAÍSO 50km/36mins. Book your tour

DAY 2: Valle Del Yeso.
CAR/DAY: 95$ WE RENTED A HYUNDAI ACCENT FOR 5 PEOPLE. PRICE / PERSON 20 USD
VALPARAÍSO – FOOD, PARKING, FUNICULARS, WINE, FUEL PRICE/PERSON 37USD.

VALLE DEL YESO – FUEL FOR THE DAY PRICE/PERSON 10USD.

TOTAL PRICE:  FOR 1 DAY IS 67$/PERSON

CAR RENTAL: Since my colleagues & I were time-bound, we chose to rent a car. If you prefer staying back & enjoying the tour there are plenty of options.

Car rentals are quite affordable & there are plenty of car rentals at the airport or in the city. We booked ours from the hotel as the hotel guest had discounts on car rentals. We booked A Hyundai Accent for 95$ a day which included the insurance & unlimited mileage. Well if you compare the price for the organised tours they are obviously more expensive & less leverage.

DAY 1: We started around 10am after having some breakfast. Our 1st stop was supposed to be the Wine Estate. Well, you are in SANTIAGO you have to think about wine. There were plenty of vineyards which was around Santiago like Santa Cruz, Casablanca & many more… But we chose Casablanca as it would be in the same direction for our next stop VALPARAÍSO. When you enter Casablanca you will see exits marked for different vineyards. There are around 12-15 vineyards in Casablanca. We chose VIÑA INDOMITA as it is the producer for local Chilean wines & the view from the vineyard is stunning as it is on a certain height. (See the picture above). There are 2 things you can choose to do:

1) WINE TOUR: YOU CAN CHOOSE TO TAKE A WINE TOUR WHICH IS 15000 CHILEAN PESO (22 USD). ( TOUR TAKES MAX 1 HOUR)
2) WINE TASTING: YOU CAN TASTE ANY OF THEIR WINES & THEN ORDER THEM
AS YOU LIKE. STARTING PRICE OF A GLASS WAS 1500 PESOS (2.30 USD) DAMN CHEAP
HUH!! WELL, THAT’S WHAT WE DID. WE CHOSE TO GO WITH WINE TASTING WITHOUT THE TOUR, HAD A COUPLE OF WINES & SOAKED INTO THE VIEW.

After having a couple of wines we started our drive to VIÑA DEL MAR & VALPARAÍSO.

P.S. – We had a colleague who did not drink & she drove us to our next stop.

The Drive was only 36 min that is 55km from vineyard to Viña Del Mar. We didn’t particularly stop at Viña Del Mar, we just drove through the coast & enjoyed the beautiful drive, passed the flower clock (apparently there are only 10 in the world & one of it is in Viña Del Mar. I personally didn’t like it, but if you haven’t seen 1 definitely worth a click. That’s a drive-through shot;)Blumenuhr_Viña
Our next stop was Valparaíso. There is a public underground car park, which is quite reasonable. We paid around 2800 pesos (5USD) for the whole day. If your using
google maps like we did, just look for this restaurant BOTE SALVAVID & the car park is just before that.

The restaurant is actually quite nice if you want to stop by for lunch, a good view of the
port, good wine & good menu selection.

This is a small image of the hake Fish in herb sauce with rice, the food I ordered. The total I paid including the tip was 22$.1284pCT2HRumYT7m9lgtm+A5000 pesos (22 USD).

We spotted this Champ while having lunch.d7SY17jBSjyG3QyzD%Oa%g

After some awesome lunch, we headed exploring the HISTORIC QUARTER OF THE SEAPORT CITY OF VALPARAÍSO. If you are an art lover you are going to LOVE this city. This city is full of GRAFFITI, Full of COLOUR. Just walk around the city, get lost in their streets & art. The amazing part is getting into the city. These are neither lifts nor cable cars, they are called FUNICULARS. (EL Peral Lift. Picture below.) The ticket for this was 50 cents.100QHqm5VSCQpa+ItHdfsteFA pesos (14 dollar cents).

After this, my writing would not do any justice to the arts we saw or to the streets
we walked. Below are some of the pictures. But Before I share the pictures, YES, there are
loads of B&B’s and hotels in Valparaíso if you wish to stay.ykjVOkw1TpSGeJfyF4GXjQGR2UGXnOSHqtFa1LkLQqGwsODYfaQsQDGP4JOfW5sDjQ52x7DKQDT4yv0BUyGHIazg

We got back to the hotel at 9pm. Decent time to sleep & wakeup for VALLE DEL
YESO.

DAY 2: Valle Del Yeso: google maps will lead you there. Just a heads up:eb68c958-be24-4947-bca5-5f54f4ab0409

  • THERE IS NO INTERNET OR MOBILE NETWORK AFTER A CERTAIN POINT.
DO DOWNLOAD AN OFFLINE MAP OR TAKE GPS.
  • AFTER YOU ENTER THE WINDY ROADS THERE ARE NO RESTAURANTS, NO
TOILETS NO FOOD JOINTS NO GAS STATION SO FUEL UP.
  • CARRY SOME NIBBLES FOR THE ROAD.
  • THERE ARE A FEW FIRE PITS AS YOU DRIVE FURTHER INSIDE IF YOU ARE
NOT TIME CONSTRICTED, CARRY A LITTLE PICNIC & BARBECUE THERE.
  • WEAR SUNBLOCK & DON’T WEAR ANYTHING WHITE, ESPECIALLY SHOES. The drive for an hour and a half is easy, simple & beautiful. But as you get closer it
gets windy & as you go further in, it gets WINDY, NARROW, UNPAVED. So please
drive safe & slow. Give yourself a whole day for this tour.
The Tour Buses stop at the beginning where the actual view begins as the roads
are too narrow. There are Portable toilets there, which are clean & chargeable (5
peso). There are a couple of food stalls (like chips & maybe even empanadas). You
will see a tourist walking on the same road that you drive, so please watch out for
pedestrians, potholes, & of course the cars from the other side. YES YOU HEARD ME
RIGHT, it is A 2 LANE TRAFFIC. But all this is definitely worth the view. You can drive as much as you want, further inside, or till you reach this board (picture below) to tick the box & get a picture.

If you prefer booking a tour that is even better too.

Now is the time I stop talking & share pictures. Hope this post was helpful. I will
definitely go back for more days in the future & this time it would be on an RV
with my hubby driving;).gHJYpxH+QOyoqtnV+LH3ug
